Hi blog. Remember that blog post about my tendency to abandon blogs? Yeah that happened. I got distracted by pretty shinies!
The semester went well, with me getting A's in all but one class. I'm on break now, but start again in two weeks. Wee? Kinda scary, really.
When I was posting last, I was doing the most half hearted attempt at keto there ever was. What's keto, you might be asking? Essentially, it's a low carb, high fat diet that operates on the premise of ketone bodies. Ketones are produced by your body when you're metabolizing fat as your primary energy source rather than glycogen/carbs. So you eat low carb to deplete your glycogen stores (energy stored in your muscles), high fat so that you're easily satiated (and to convince your body that we're not being starved, alright?), and that along the way you measure your ketone output by peeing on sticks. There's a lot of peeing on sticks.
I'm really attempting this because of my gorgeous, lovely, tiny fucking friend. I love her, but she's been a size 4 her entire life, on top of being gorgeous. And then she got a boyfriend and gained 20 lbs. So he decided to go to Lindora to lose weight himself, and she joined in support. She lost her 20 lbs in about two and a half months. He's been doing it for longer, and has lost like 50. The fuck. So I asked her about Lindora.
And holy shit is Lindora ever expensive. Their cheapest package is $140/month here. I'm in this school program and can't work a ton, and am therefore becoming increasingly poor. I worry about paying the essentials, like car insurance, let alone some weight loss program. So I can't do it. But I prodded her for details, and guess what? Lindora's plan is, essentially, a guided ketogenic based program. They focus less on the high fat (boo), more on the low carb, but there are still keto sticks to pee on. So it's operating on the same basic principles.
That is how I decided to give keto another try. So far I am satisfied. I've lost 5.8 lbs since starting it two weeks ago. I'm the lighter purple on the keto scale, which is damn good (and indicates that my body is, indeed, using fat for fuel). I'm not hungry, which is a big yay, and I don't have to think constantly about what I'm doing (which is why calorie counting has worked and failed in the past for me).
So those are the deets. I guess I'll update when there's more to update about? My clinicals start when school does, so prepare yourself for that inevitable freak out...
